How to Clean Artificial Grass

Switching to artificial grass means less maintenance, but some care is still needed to keep it looking its best. A quick hosing every couple of weeks helps refresh the lawn, and you can use specialized cleaners to combat algae and bacteria while giving it that fresh-cut smell. For stains, simply blot with a paper towel, use a mild detergent, and scrub with an old toothbrush if necessary.

To prevent matting, brush the grass monthly with a rake or broom, working in strips like mowing. During autumn, clear leaves and debris to avoid weed growth, and tackle any weeds with a gentle, water-based killer. How to Clean Artificial Grass

If you notice any stains or spillages on your artificial grass, you can get rid of these by:

• Blotting with a paper towel
• Using a mixture of detergent and water
• And using an old toothbrush to remove more stubborn stains

Brush the pile

After some time, your artificial grass can get flat and matted – something which can ruin the aesthetic of your lawn.

To combat this, we suggest brushing the pile monthly. While you can use tools specifically designed for the job, we think that most ordinary rakes or brooms should do fine (as long as they’re not metal).

Starting in one corner, work your way across one side and tackle the lawn in strips, just as if you were mowing. If something heavy has left its mark in the grass, you may have to brush against the grain a little to spruce up the pile.

Remove leaves

When autumn rolls round, you’ll want to remove the leaves and any debris that falls on your artificial grass.

While you might think that it helps achieve a natural look for your garden, it could well promote weed growth, so it’s best to keep your grass clear.

If you don’t own a leaf blower, no problem: the brush or rake you used to spruce up the pile will do nicely.

Remove weeds

This is more of an ad hoc task, so you won’t have to worry about doing this monthly.

To remove the weeds, we recommend using a water-based moss and weed killer that has a maximum pH balance of 8. Once the weeds are dead, be sure to remove them from your lawn, along with any remaining loose leaves or debris.

Remember: one of the main advantages of an artificial lawn over natural grass is that you don’t need to worry about using any harmful pesticides.
